Maasai Ostrich Farm is set in 200 acres of rolling grasslands, on the Athi River/Kitengela plains, 45 kilometers from Nairobi and about 30minutes drive from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Ostrich is one of the largest living species of bird in the world. Ostriches are known for their amazingly long necks, lofty heights, two toes and large eye ball. There are 2 types of ostriches at the farm; the Somali ostrich with blue-neck and the Masai ostrich which has a pink neck and legs. The ostrich is the largest bird in the world and cannot fly but can run up to 70 kilometers per hour.
In the tour farm you have an opportunity to be up close and personal with ostriches. You get to tour the farm and learn the way the birds are bred in different age groups, from babies to adults.
There also are plenty of opportunities to catch an appropriate memento image—or a selfie with the birds. There is also the opportunity to hand-feed the ostriches, and if the weather is good, you can even take an ostrich ride!
After the tour you’ll have lunch with ostrich meat that’s low in cholesterol. Later inside the afternoon you can swim as you loosen up before we return again to the city.
