16-Day Tanzania Safari & Cultural Adventure Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your safari guide and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. The rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your journey. You will have time to settle in and receive a briefing about the adventure ahead.

Overnight: Arusha.

Day 2: Materuni Village – Kuringe Waterfall.

After breakfast, drive towards the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro and visit Materuni Village, home to the Chagga people. From the village, begin a scenic walk through lush coffee and banana plantations towards Kuringe Waterfall.

The walk offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and Mount Kilimanjaro when weather conditions are clear. At the waterfall, enjoy the natural surroundings before returning to the village. You may also experience aspects of traditional Chagga life and local agriculture.

Overnight: Arusha.

Day 3: Arusha National Park.

After breakfast, depart for Arusha National Park for a full day of exploration. The park combines forests, open grasslands, lakes and the slopes of Mount Meru.

Enjoy a game drive looking for giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs and various antelope species. Depending on the conditions and arrangements, the day can also include a walking experience accompanied by an armed ranger.

Return to your accommodation in the evening.

Overnight: Arusha / Arusha National Park area.

Day 4: Tarangire National Park.

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park. Upon arrival, begin your game drive through an area famous for its enormous baobab trees and large elephant populations.

Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, antelopes and predators. The Tarangire River is an important source of water and attracts wildlife, particularly during the dry season.

Overnight: Tarangire area.

Day 5: Full Day Tarangire National Park.

Enjoy a full day of game drives in Tarangire National Park. With a full day available, there is more time to explore different areas of the park and observe wildlife at a relaxed pace.

Your guide will look for elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other wildlife while also providing opportunities for photography.

Overnight: Tarangire area.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park.

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara National Park. Enjoy a game drive through the park’s diverse habitats, including woodland, open plains and areas around the lake.

The park is well known for its birdlife and can offer sightings of elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, baboons and other wildlife. Keep an eye out for the park’s famous tree-climbing lions.

After the game drive, continue to your accommodation.

Overnight: Lake Manyara / Mto wa Mbu area.

Day 7: Mto wa Mbu – Mountain Bike Ride & Maasai Village.

Today is dedicated to culture and local experiences. After breakfast, explore the Mto wa Mbu area by mountain bike, cycling through local villages, farms and surrounding landscapes.

Later, visit a Maasai village to learn about traditional Maasai culture, lifestyle and customs. This provides an opportunity to interact with the local community and gain a deeper understanding of life in northern Tanzania.

Overnight: Mto wa Mbu / Karatu area.

Day 8: Lake Natron.

After breakfast, depart for the remote Lake Natron area. The journey takes you through scenic landscapes and traditional Maasai communities.

Upon arrival, explore the surroundings of Lake Natron, a striking alkaline lake located beneath Ol Doinyo Lengai. The area is particularly known for its dramatic scenery and flamingo population.

Depending on the conditions and time available, enjoy a nature walk or flamingo-viewing experience.

Overnight: Lake Natron.

Day 9: Full Day Lake Natron.

Spend another day exploring Lake Natron and its surrounding landscapes.

You can enjoy a guided walk around the area and explore the natural scenery, with the option of visiting the Ngare Sero waterfalls. The region offers a very different experience from the major safari parks, with rugged landscapes, volcanic surroundings and opportunities to experience the local Maasai environment.

Overnight: Lake Natron.

Day 10: Lake Natron – Central Serengeti.

After breakfast, begin the journey from Lake Natron towards the Serengeti. This is a scenic but relatively long travel day as you make your way towards one of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife destinations.

Upon entering the Serengeti, begin an en-route game drive, watching for wildlife as you make your way towards your accommodation.

Arrive in the central Serengeti and settle into your accommodation.

Overnight: Central Serengeti.

Day 11: Full Day Central Serengeti.

Enjoy a full day of game drives in the Central Serengeti.

The area is famous for its expansive savannahs and excellent wildlife viewing. Search for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other plains game.

With a full day in the park, your guide can explore different areas depending on wildlife movements and current conditions.

Overnight: Central Serengeti.

Day 12: Full Day Central Serengeti.

Continue exploring the Central Serengeti with another full day of game drives.

This additional day allows you to spend more time following wildlife activity and enjoying the Serengeti landscape without rushing from one destination to another. The day can be tailored around wildlife sightings and photography opportunities.

Overnight: Central Serengeti.

Day 13: Ngorongoro Conservation Area & Crater.

After breakfast, depart from the Serengeti towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Proceed into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. The crater is renowned for its high concentration of wildlife and dramatic scenery. Look for lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and, with some luck, the endangered black rhinoceros.

After the crater experience, ascend from the crater and continue to your accommodation in the Ngorongoro area.

Overnight: Ngorongoro / Karatu area.

Day 14: Empakaai Crater Hike.

Today offers a completely different experience from the safari game drives. After breakfast, head towards Empakaai Crater for a guided hiking experience.

The hike takes you through the spectacular highland landscape towards the crater rim, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the crater and surrounding areas. The area offers beautiful scenery and a chance to experience the Ngorongoro highlands on foot.

After the hike, return to your accommodation for relaxation.

Overnight: Ngorongoro / Karatu area.

Day 15: Lake Eyasi & Hadzabe Tribe.

After breakfast, travel to Lake Eyasi for a cultural experience with the Hadzabe community.

Spend time learning about the Hadzabe’s traditional way of life, hunting and gathering practices, and relationship with the surrounding environment. Depending on the arrangements, you may also interact with members of the Datoga community and learn about their traditional crafts and way of life.

After the cultural experience, begin the journey back towards Arusha.

Overnight: Arusha.

Day 16: Departure – Kilimanjaro International Airport.

After breakfast, enjoy your final morning in Tanzania before your transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Your safari guide will ensure you arrive at the airport in good time for your outbound international flight, marking the end of your 16-day Tanzania safari, hiking and cultural adventure.
