10-Day Southern Tanzania Safari Itinerary.

Day 1 – Arrival in Dar es Salaam.

Arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, where you will be met by your safari representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your international journey.

Overnight: Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

Day 2 – Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park.

After breakfast, depart Dar es Salaam and drive to Mikumi National Park. The journey takes you through the scenic landscapes of southern Tanzania. Upon arrival, proceed for an afternoon game drive, with opportunities to spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, lions and other wildlife.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp in Mikumi.

Day 3 – Full Day Mikumi National Park.

Spend the entire day exploring Mikumi National Park on game drives. The park is known for its open plains and diverse wildlife, making it an excellent destination for observing large herds of elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes and predators.

You will have a full-day safari with a picnic lunch in the park before continuing with wildlife viewing in the afternoon.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp in Mikumi.

Day 4 – Udzungwa Mountains National Park & Sanje Waterfalls Hike.

After breakfast, depart for Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Today is dedicated to nature and hiking as you explore one of Tanzania’s most scenic mountain areas.

Embark on a hike through the forest to the spectacular Sanje Waterfalls. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, lush vegetation and opportunities to encounter some of the area’s unique wildlife and bird species.

After the hike, return to your accommodation to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp near Udzungwa.

Day 5 – Udzungwa to Ruaha National Park.

After breakfast, continue your journey towards Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s largest national park and one of the country’s most important wildlife areas.

Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation and, depending on your arrival time, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Ruaha is famous for its elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and diverse birdlife.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp in Ruaha.

Day 6 – Full Day Ruaha National Park.

Enjoy a full day of safari in Ruaha National Park. Explore the park’s vast landscapes and follow the Great Ruaha River, where wildlife frequently gathers, particularly during the dry season.

The day will include extensive game viewing with opportunities to see elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes, wild dogs and many other species.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp in Ruaha.

Day 7 – Flight to Nyerere National Park & Boat Safari.

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Nyerere National Park.

Upon arrival, meet your safari guide and proceed for a half-day boat safari along the Rufiji River. The boat safari provides a different perspective of Tanzania’s wildlife, with opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, elephants and a wide variety of water birds along the riverbanks.

After the boat safari, return to your lodge or camp for an evening at leisure.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp in Nyerere National Park.

Day 8 – Full Day Nyerere National Park.

Spend a full day exploring Nyerere National Park on a game drive. The park is known for its diverse wildlife and beautiful landscapes, including woodland, grassland and riverine environments.

Enjoy a full-day safari with opportunities to see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, wild dogs and other wildlife. A picnic lunch can be enjoyed during the safari before continuing with afternoon game viewing.

Overnight: Lodge/Camp in Nyerere National Park.

Day 9 – Flight to Dar es Salaam.

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure.

This provides time to relax, explore Dar es Salaam or prepare for your international departure the following day.

Overnight: Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

Day 10 – Departure from Tanzania.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before your transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport for your outbound international flight home.

Your Southern Tanzania safari adventure comes to an end with wonderful memories of Tanzania’s wildlife, mountains, rivers and national parks.
